The Art of Outspokenness

Updated: Jan 1, 2019

“Oh God! Look what a diva she is!”

Yes, this is the EXACT expression given to a woman when she refuses to listen, smile and nod to the commands given to her. Even after years when India got its first female Prime Minister, Ms Indira Gandhi, who served the nation for eleven long years, look how hard it is to hear a woman’s opinions in the Indian society.

No matter how much we say that “come on! We live in the 21st century… Women have a right to enjoy equality… Blah blah…”, we know it clearly that it is a male-chauvinist society that we reside in… And no matter how hard we try, we’re always pushed till the edge to prove ourselves right. To put out things in a better way, Kangana Ranaut, a Bollywood actress, is the best example in the industry who has been long struggling to be the “breaker of chains” and “mother of revolution” (if you ever followed GOT, you’d know).

Much to everyone’s surprise, Kangana played a savage role in the interview with the senior journalist Rajat Sharma on the national television. Without even blinking her eyes or giving a second thought to all that she had to say, she brutally and boldly answered the questions and brushed off all allegations on her quite smartly… But that is not where the story ends. In fact, that is where the fuel to the already existing fire was added.

Kangana did not only speak about her relations with her co-star Hrithik Roshan but was also wildly vocal about her relations with other co-actors and struggles in the industry. To remind you all, the film industry is a live example of “all the glitters are not gold”. It fascinates and attracts innumerable talents with its captivating appearance but little do they know that the enchanting film business is an illusion full of deceptions. Ms Ranaut fiercely dictated incidents of humiliation due to her weak command over English language, harassment, molestation, mental trauma and what not! Yet she came out as a fearless and successful entity in the Bollywood.

Courage. Confidence. Honesty. These are the main characters that Ms Ranaut possesses and in fact, these are the three basic elements that every human needs to lead a hassle-free life. Though such characteristics come with their own drawback and harmful consequences, it ultimately prevents anyone from the guilt of not voicing the opinions when they were needed. Trust me, there is no rocket science behind being expressive and vociferous about events you liked or maybe, disliked. Soon, you’ll realize that you have made a difference in the society or probably initiated a revolution against something everybody was blindly following. Believing in yourself is a factor which is directly proportional to your ability to be outspoken and blunt.

But…

Although, these words look good on paper, when they are actually acted upon, it takes no time for the society to term a woman as an 'outcast'. See how easy it is! Isn’t it? “Cut the throats of all the women who are more vehement than men…” but no, that’s not how the system works or should ever work. If one gives the power to another to suppress oneself, one will get suppressed… but again, why do you want to get suppressed, knowingly or unknowingly?

Honestly,

If only every woman was audacious enough to speak out her mind, if every woman had the courage to raise her voice against the evils which she is forced to face every day, if every woman just did not accept things the way they have been since ages… only then we would’ve been living in a more honest country, where the rage of equality and feminism was never needed.

Unfortunately, that’s the country we can only dream of.
